This month I am celebrating Black History. In this space I’ll highlight a wine on Wednesday and a spirit or beer on Thursday produced by an African American. Please enjoy these posts in the spirit they have been written.
3 NBA Championship rings, an Ed. D, honorary US Deputy Marshall, Miami Beach reserve officer, and 3 rap albums, Shaquille O’neal clearly likes to try new things. His newest venture, Luv Shaq vodka. Shaq is partnering with Devotion Vodka of Philadelphia for this project. His new vodka will be gluten and sugar-free vodka and come in coconut flavor. Luv Shaq is expected to be released by the spring.

Is this something you’ll be buying once released?
Vodka Infusion class at Living Social HQ
I had the pleasure of attending this class, and finally meeting, Lady Erin of Bag Ladies Radio. <3 her!!! The class was amazing!! You all know I’ve done some infusions before but there is always room for ideas and improvement. Dan Searing from Room 11 walked us through how vodka is made and how to infuse it. Berry (Cranberry), Nut (Almond), Citrus (Clementine), and Herb (Wormwood) recipes were given. Best part of it all, outside of the actual tasting of the infusions, was that we all went home with a mason jar, spices and recipes to jumpstart our own infusions. How cool is that?!!
I’m starting with a blood orange infusion this weekend!
On twitter, I have found that there is a ‘day’ for everything. Plum Day, Taco Day, Peanut Butter Day, Banana Pudding Day… But to hear of today being National Vodka Day, I can definitely get on board!! Here a few vodka cocktails to make today, because you already have vodka at home, right???

1 Shot FOU-DRÉ vodka
3 oz. Sparkling Water
Splash of Lemon Juice
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Root Beer Shake
2 oz. Pinnacle Whipped vodka
1 oz. root beer liqueur
¼ cup milk
2 scoops vanilla ice cream
Blend all ingredients until smooth.
Pour into a tall glass and top
with whipped cream.

Mix beer and vodka, shake well. Server in highball glass. Garnish with lemon wedge
Since I’m still kinda hype about FOU-DRE vodka, today’s cocktail recipe is one of their Signature Drinks. This vodka will be released on September 13th, seriously you need to pick this up!!
FOU-DRE Sunset
1 part FOU-DRE
1 part Apricot Brandy
1/4 part Lime Cordial
1/4 part Ginger Syrup
2 parts Mango Nectar
Combine and serve in an ice-filled tumbler
Shake it Up
FOU-DRE Mixology Competition
I had the extreme pleasure and honor of being a judge at this competition. FOU-DRE is a new vodka brand out of Maryland. Owned by Chanel Turner, she is the first African-American female proprietor of a vodka brand. Big ups to her! The vodka itself is a smooth, natural, fruit-infused premium vodka. Take the bottle for example, holding it made me feel like I just won an Oscar!
There were 9 bartenders in the competition, all vying to win. The ultimate winner of the evening was Aaron from Bourbon Steak and the crowd favorite was from Half-Note.
FOU-DRE will be released on September 13th in New York during Fashion Week. When you see this bottle, you’ll know it, and you should definitely pick one up!

I’m very partial to the Rosemary’s Berry and LoCal Lemon Lyte. Enjoy!!
The beginnings of some amazing vodka!! I cut up a pint of strawberries and put a few in the bottom of a mason jar. I muddled those, then added the rest of the strawberries. Fill the jar to the top with vodka and shake a little. Put in the refrigerator for a week. Try to shake the jar everyday. Come back in a week and see how this turns out!
